About Institute for Active Citizenship

Institute for Active Citizenship is a non-profit organization that seeks to support those who strive for a green and socially just future and who would like to actively participate in public life in the Czech Republic.

We are expanding new ways of promoting ecological and social transformation. We strongly believe in the need for change towards a more sustainable and inclusive society. Supporting those who can bring such transformation about is at the heart of our work. We connect different actors and build communities. Through our projects, we promote education, enable the sharing of know-how, and support those interested in developing civic and political competences.

The diversity of our projects reflects the current needs of the people who work toward social and ecological transformation.

What we are currently working now:

  • European Green Activists Training (Akumulátor)

Capacity-building project for young people who care about the world they live in. Participants aged 15–23 take part in a series of weekend sessions followed by a trip to Brussels. Do you want a future that is solidarity-based, climate-just, feminist and inclusive? Then EGAT is for you!

  • Peace and Security Debate Series

The war in Ukraine highlighted the need for the green movement to become a more active participant in the public debate on international security. In our project, implemented with the cooperation of the Green European Foundation and Voxpot.cz, we aim to articulate a green perspective on the topic as well as bring some previously neglected aspects to the debate.

  • Advocating for positive change in maternity care

We believe that all women in our country should have access to safe, science-based, continuous, and respectful health care for themselves and their babies during the entire pregnancy and the six-week postpartum period. Working with key stakeholders who bring both expertise and experience in promoting systemic change, we seek to achieve policy changes in this area.
